Todd Chavez is a human in his twenties who lives rent-free with BoJack in his house and sleeps on the couch at the beginning of BoJack Horseman.
He later moves in with Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter, and eventually ends up occupying Princess Carolyn's old apartment in the end of Season 4. He is one of the main characters.
Todd is notoriously lazy, a slacker, and is frequently told by BoJack to "clean up your shit, Todd."
However, he is also very creative and can work tirelessly when he discovers something that interests him, and his shenanigans have gotten him into a range of situations and occupations.
He is also seen to put forth a lot of effort to help people: cooking meals and/or running errands for Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter and Princess Carolyn, and assisting BoJack with his various schemes.
At the end of That Went Well, he believes he may be asexual. He is shown for the next few episodes to be unsure about this and is uncomfortable with being called asexual. However, in Hooray! Todd Episode!, he accepts himself and officially comes out as asexual.
Design
Todd is an adult human male in his twenties. He has short, shaggy, dark blue hair that is mostly worn under a yellow beanie, and black stubble on his face and neck.
He typically wears a red zip hoodie with a plain white shirt underneath, grey sweatpants with white lines on the sides, and blue flip-flops.
During Todd's time in prison in Our A-Story is a "D" Story, he gets two tattoos—one on his right arm that says Latin Kings and another on his left arm that says Skin Heads, both of which are the names of gangs Todd was invited to join.
Sometime after he broke out, Todd had them edited to say "LA Kings", with the "tin" in Latin crossed out, and "Skinny Jugheads", with the added letters written in purple.
Todd appears to be significantly shorter than most of the other characters and has a somewhat more cartoony appearance. According to his model sheets, Todd is approximately 5' 2" tall.
After becoming President of Ad Sales at WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com in The Light Bulb Scene, Todd spends the rest of Season 5 wearing a dark blue suit with the jacket opened, a white collared shirt, a black tie, and dark brown shoes, along with his normal yellow beanie.
Todd is seen wearing a left black shoe due to losing his other shoe in Planned Obsolescence. In The Showstopper Todd sticks a lit pipe into the inside pocket on the left side of his jacket, leaving a visible burn mark on the outside. He removes this entire outfit in The Stopped Show and reveals he had his normal clothes on underneath it.
As a teenager in 2007 he had longer, straighter hair with bangs parted to one side (since that was the style at that time), and he had a periwinkle beanie and blue sweatpants.
Background
History
Todd Chavez was born on April 15, 1991.
On Halloween, 2004, a thirteen-year-old Todd and his friends, one of whom is a girl named Emily, tried to trick-or-treat at BoJack Horseman's house during his annual Halloween party.
However, Princess Carolyn denied them candy, saying they were too young for the party and too old to be trick-or-treating. As revenge, Todd and his friends TP BoJack's house.
In 2007, a teenage Todd and Emily, who had always harbored a crush on him, made out in a closet while playing seven minutes in heaven at a party, and the two became boyfriend and girlfriend. A few months later, while making out in her parents' bedroom, Emily asks Todd to have sex.
Todd hesitantly agrees, but just then they hear Emily's dad comes home. Todd begins to panic, as he thinks Emily's dad is a mob boss, as she told him her dad’s job is related to The Sopranos, but Emily reveals he’s actually an editor for The Sopranos.
Todd shimmies out the window by using the film reel of the final episode of The Sopranos as a rope. When he does, a bit of it breaks off. As he runs away, he looks at the film strip and discovers Tony marries Dr. Melfi.
Shortly afterward, Todd became obsessed with the video game series Decapathon until it corrupted his life—flunking out of high school, losing his girlfriend, Emily, and being kicked out of his mom's house.
On Halloween, 2009, Todd, now eighteen, went back to BoJack's Halloween party. He compliments the house to Princess Carolyn, who, like always, is on door duty for the party. Princess Carolyn says it’s her boyfriend's house.
Todd questions why her boyfriend makes her answer the door. Princess Carolyn begins to deny this but suddenly has an epiphany, questioning what she’s doing with her life, as she’s already thirty-five.
She rushes out the door and passes the box of screeners to Todd, leaving him with the responsibility.
During the party, BoJack got a call from his mother telling him his father died in a duel. After he hangs up with her, BoJack goes back into the house to learn from Todd that the party is over. BoJack laments that he thought he would feel something when this (one of his parents dying) happened, but he doesn’t. Todd offers to stick around for a bit, and BoJack agrees and tells him to stick around as long as he wants.
The next morning, Todd made BoJack hash browns to thank him. BoJack kept eating them, and he threw up in the pool, which also made Todd throw up. BoJack told Todd to clean it up, but Todd never did and BoJack had to call the pool cleaner. Afterward, Todd told him, "Thank you for letting me stay here. I don't have anywhere else to go," which made BoJack feel good about himself.
Todd continues to remain unemployed and sleep on BoJack's couch for the next five years, while BoJack financially supported him.
Season 1
Some point before the first episode, Todd got involved with a powerful drug cartel, leaving him to throw a Quinceañera for the leader's teenage daughter. He also once got involved with the Russian mafia.
Todd is seen being friendly and laid back toward BoJack, and referring to him as his best friend, while BoJack, despite also referring to Todd as his best friend, constantly voices disdain for him and tells him to "clean his shit up", to a point where he could be considered abusive to him. Todd is also seen getting involved in BoJack’s antics and schemes.
In Zoës and Zeldas, Todd reveals he has a rock opera, "Newtopia Rising. Book 1: The Search for a New Utopia". BoJack, at first, harshly criticizes it after Todd performs it in front of everyone. However, he decides to mentor Todd and help him refine his rock opera. During this time, Todd reveals to BoJack about how he got addicted to Decapathon and it ruined his life. Princess Carolyn signs Todd as one of her clients and invites a celebrated name in rock operas, Virgil Van Cleef, to view his next rehearsal.
Virgil is pleased with Todd's rock opera and invites Todd to debut it next month at a theater he owns. BoJack is dismayed about Todd's sudden success but still shows support. He takes Todd to get snacks at a convenience store after hearing the news that potential financiers were coming to see a rehearsal tomorrow.
It is at the store that Todd discovers Decapathon VII, the newest game in the video game series that ruined him in the past in the ten cents bin, after a woman standing behind him asks him to get a tape for her out of said bin.
BoJack staunchly tells Todd not to relapse, but Todd buys and secretly plays the video game in an all-night binge. Todd ends up groggy the following morning and gives a shabby performance, disappointing Virgil and the financiers. BoJack consoles Todd and takes him home.
He also decides to let Todd use the closet in the living room to keep his stuff in it. However, we see BoJack, in order to avoid being alone, bought Decapathon VII and placed it in the convenience store bargain bin, and he had paid off store clerks and Character Actress Margo Martindale to manipulate getting the game into Todd's hands the entire time in order to jeopardize his chances of ever having a successful career. After Todd goes to bed, we see the receipt for BoJack’s purchase Decapathon VII underneath the couch.
In Live Fast, Diane Nguyen, after having the house to himself when BoJack and Diane go to Boston, Todd ends unwittingly begins to showcase the house as David Boreanaz's house to paying tourists even crudely taping pictures of David's face onto pictures of BoJack.
After hearing this, Princess Carolyn assists him since he is one of her clients. Todd's tourist business grows to proportions out of his control thanks to Princess Carolyn's scheming, helplessly laundering the tourism money through illegal channels, and ultimately landing him in prison. He uses his only phone call on BoJack, who doesn’t recognize the number and hangs up.
In Our A-Story is a "D" Story , Todd is solicited by two gangs while in prison: the Aryans and the Latin Kings. He is torn between which gang to join, as the two gangs ask him to consider and make a decision at the upcoming prison mixer. He calls BoJack multiple times for both advice on his situation and to possibly get bail altogether, but is either ignored or dismissed.
He is later saved when The Hollywood "D" BoJack stole to impress Diane is then en route to being returned from Mr. Peanutbutter's house to its original location when one of Mr. Peanutbutter's celebratory fireworks downs the helicopter. It crashes into the prison Todd is being kept at, where he is moments away from being curb-stomped by both gangs after they found out that he was trying to please both at once. He is saved by the ensuing jailbreak.
In The Telescope Todd goes with Diane and BoJack to Malibu to visit BoJack's old friend Herb Kazzaz. He is left in charge of watching the car while BoJack and Diane are inside the house. He is then suddenly held at gunpoint by members of the Celebrity Stealing Club who are looking for precious memorabilia.
Sensing tension between the two sisters he tries to mediate for them. When Todd lets his guard down the knock him unconscious and flee the scene.
In Horse Majeure Todd realizes BoJack had tried to sabotage his rock opera. He angrily tells BoJack to stop messing in other people's lives after he tries to sabotage Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter's wedding.
Mr. Peanutbutter had earlier confided in Todd that he has doubts about his marriage to Diane, and remarks he sometimes feels relief when he dreams that Diane disappeared from his life. Conflicted, Todd decides not to share this useful information with BoJack when he suspects that BoJack had used Margo Martindale similarly in Zoës and Zeldas to help Todd relapse back into playing video games.
In One Trick Pony During the filming of the movie based on Our A-Story is a "D" Story, Todd decides to get involved to do something with his life since his failed rock opera launch in Zoës and Zeldas. He begins to suggest ideas to Quentin Tarantulino, and is reciprocated due to Tarantulino's eccentricity. This causes major changes to the script and film and begins to downplay BoJack's screen time and involvement.
BoJack suspects this is the direct result of Todd enacting revenge for BoJack's sabotage of Todd's rock opera. The changes to the film become increasingly drastic until the film is canceled altogether when Quentin and Todd decide the story should be told as a "bi-monthly curated box of snacks." BoJack confronts Todd, accusing him of sabotaging the film to prevent BoJack from relaunching his career similarly to what he did to Todd.
Todd, however, claims it wasn't the case, as he had learned to move on and had been working with Quentin in earnest. He refuses to fully reconcile with a guilty BoJack in the end.
In Downer Ending back at his house, BoJack has a hard time beginning to write. He procrastinates by setting himself up with various distraction and ultimately decides to contact Sarah Lynn for recreational drugs to help jump-start the writing process. Along with Todd and Sarah Lynn, BoJack binges on the drugs and agree to split up writing the book among the three of them. The process seemingly begins well, but they soon lose sight of the task at hand.
BoJack fearfully confronts Todd again about his sabotage, and Todd tells him again that he has moved on, but has learned not to expect much from BoJack for fear of being dragged down with him. As the drug effects worsen, they begin to get violent, lose their sense of reality, and begin having extreme hallucinations.
In the Christmas Special following Season 1 BoJack and Todd watch a very special Christmas episode of Horsin' Around titled Sabrina's Christmas Wish in which his youngest adopted daughter Sabrina, upon discovering Santa's existence decides to wish for her parents to be alive again. The ending brings much confusion to Todd. An initially skeptical BoJack suggests they watch the series' eight other Christmas specials.
Season 2
In Brand New Couch Todd comes through the front door covered in dirt, and questions why he woke up in an alley. BoJack explains he had to get rid of the old couch because it was a metaphor for his old attitude and he misheard his audiobook tell him he had to get rid of the burdens of his life “so far” with “sofa.” Todd is unsure if he likes the new couch and says he’ll just sleep in BoJack’s car. He later decides the new couch is good after all.
In Yesterdayland BoJack asks Todd to drive him to his car as he drove his car into a fountain and Ubered home, but Todd rejects saying he has to set up his new theme park.
In the past, BoJack told Todd that Disneyland didn’t exist.
So, over the past five years, Todd has been working on his own version of "real" Disneyland, though BoJack has no memory of it despite him constantly bringing it up and building with worker bees very loudly.
Todd gives Diane, Princess Carolyn, Vincent, and Wanda a tour. Vincent is cranky because he got his "adult braces" off and Princess Carolyn leaves with him. Mr. Peanutbutter, who is playing games, wants to get involved with Todd’s Disneyland because he built it while working for PB Livin' and Todd reluctantly agrees.
Mr. Peanutbutter calls a lawyer to make sure Disneyland is legal. The lawyer informs Todd that it isn’t legal and that he’ll see him in court. Todd bypasses the lawsuit because Walt Disney accidentally wrote down the wrong name for trademark, Diisneyland.
Todd celebrates his legal victory with a party at BoJack's house.
Later, while at the theme park, Todd gets caught in the roller coaster and the pile of mattresses catches on fire. The killer bees fly off and Mr. Peanutbutter tries to get the fire department, but they think that he’s trying to warn them that a kid fell down a well. Disneyland is engulfed in flames and Mr. Peanutbutter rushes with a hose to save Todd. They take the rickety roller coaster to safety.
In Still Broken, Todd accompanies BoJack to Herb's funeral. When BoJack and the former Horsin' Around cast go to Parrotmount Studios to look Around in Herb's Old office, Todd comes in, revealing himself to have been in the trunk the whole time.
BoJack gives him money to get five Squirts from the vending machine. However, Todd drops the money and it is picked up by a mouse, who is then picked up by a bird, who flies into an airplane.
Todd walks back from the vending machine in dismay before meeting a janitor who comes out from a dumpster. The janitor shows him a transformation machine that he said Steve Urkel used to become debonair, though the actual machine is a prop and represents a very powerful idea.
Todd ignores him and believes he will become cooler if he enters the machine. He does so and comes out with a cooler attitude, saying his name is “Toad.” He hits the machine to make sodas come out.
Todd maintains a cool attitude, stealing a motorcycle from a biker.
BoJack watches the sunset and Todd shows up on the motorcycle with the sodas. BoJack immediately criticizes his new look and Todd becomes embarrassed, immediately falling out of the cool look.
In After the Party Princess Carolyn offers Todd a ride home after a fight breaks out at Diane's surprise party between Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter about whether or not Tony Curtis is dead.
In the car, Todd asks if Tony Curtis is actually dead, in which Princess Carolyn says he’s not. Princess Carolyn stops the breaks as she almost hits a woman and a young boy, who looks just like her boyfriend Vincent.
She believes that was his wife and son and Vincent has a secret family. Angry, she turns the car around to her house with Todd and leaves a voicemail for Vincent demanding him to call her back. The doorbell rings and she makes Todd shimmy down the drainpipe and wait in her car. It is the boy from the crosswalk, who introduces himself as Kevin. He says that his father, Vincent, is looking for parking, and uses the bathroom.
In Princess Carolyn’s car, Todd smells an urn that has Herb’s ashes in it, and turns on the radio, before becoming very bored. He starts to talk to his phone, who asks him what love is.
Todd finishes answering his phone’s question, which then asks if they are in love. Before Todd can reply, Princess Carolyn’s work phone says that it is in love with Todd’s phone.
Todd lets the phones kiss each other. His phone then asks if he would like to update its operating system, in which they fix a bug that lets phones fall in love with each other. Both phones beg him to not update before his phone relents and understand that he has to update because to love is to feel pain. Todd, in a dilemma, says it is too much.
Todd updates his phone. Princess Carolyn comes into the car and tells him she and Vincent broke up. She says that Tony Curtis is dead.
In Chickens, Mr. Peanutbutter leaves Todd at his house to have a spa day, and suggests to Todd to go on one of his "silly Todd adventures". Todd ends up befriending an escaped "food chicken" from Chicken 4 Days. Not wanting the police to take her back to the slaughterhouse, Todd, accompanied by Diane and Kelsey's daughter Irving, help Becca escape to Gentle Farms, a chicken farm that prides itself on giving its chickens a good home until they’re killed.
However, shortly after dropping Becca off, Todd suddenly decides they have to get Becca back, saying all his life he’s been a screw-up but with Becca he was finally responsible for something. Diane quickly swerves the car around, and the trio goes to break Becca out.
However, they wake up the farmer, who’s prepared to shoot trespassers. Diane tells Irving to wait in the car while she and Todd break out Becca. They go into the chicken coop, and find Becca and set the other food chickens free.
They run and hide but end up hiding in a slaughter shed. Todd apologizes to Diane for getting into these situations all the time, but Diane says that’s just what your twenties are supposed to be like. She says she’s supposed to be the adult and she’s a total mess, but Todd says she’s the coolest person he knows. Irving drives the car into the shed, and they escape but are stopped by the police.
BoJack gets the police to drop all charges because he’s a celebrity, and he has Drew Barrymore adopt Becca as a favor she owes him.
In Higher Love, Mr. Peanutbutter and Todd are told by their accountant that PB Livin' and that Mr. Peanutbutter needs to get a job. Todd also accompanies BoJack to the hardware store to buy supplies for his auto-erotic asphyxiation contraption to get Wanda to admit she loves him.
In Hank After Dark, Mr. Peanutbutter, Todd, and Wanda are at a photo shoot at MBN for Mr. Peanutbutter's new hosting job for Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things?? Let's Find Out!. Wanda says he should get some pictures with Hank to promote both shows for the network. Mr. Peanutbutter gets nervous, as Hank is his idol.
Todd leaves to get Mr. Peanutbutter some chili so he won’t have to meet him on an empty stomach. Hank arrives, and Mr. Peanutbutter acts nervous around him, not knowing how to pose, but Hank assures him to just do what’s natural because guys like them are pros at this.
Diane's accusations against Hank makes it to the news. It is also announced the Prince of Cordovia went missing briefly that afternoon but was found buying chili, although it was actually Todd, and the prince had swapped places with him.
Tom continues on the Hank story and questions what Diane has against him. Cardigan Burk, their sociologist, dismisses these allegations, and is offended Diane would imply something like that on "a national treasure".
Meanwhile "Todd" gives Mr. Peanutbutter his mail, which to his dismay is all threats/death threats for Diane.
Prince Gustav learns from the news that Todd gave his fortune to charity and fired his chief adviser, all of which could lead to changes in Cordovia, including economic collapse, which angers the real prince.
In Let's Find Out, Mr. Peanutbutter has a new game show called Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things?? Let's Find Out where BoJack is the guest star.
Backstage he gets into a rivalry with J.D. Salinger's assistant Mia McKibben over who should win J.D's prized pen. Mia wins in the end but Todd puts on a feeling sorry for himself act which Mia falls for and she gives him the pen. Todd then mocks her for being so stupid.
In Yes And, his episode begins with BoJack and Wanda standing on the former's deck over a sleeping, bedraggled Diane, with Wanda annoyed that Diane is overstaying her welcome.
Todd walks in and wakes her up by saying good morning to everyone. Todd asks BoJack and Wanda if they want to fly a kite, to which the former harshly rejects and the latter has to work.
This makes Todd remember that he has a job too, and he goes to the set of Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things?? Let's Find Out!, although he is reminded by J.D. Salinger that he fired him, and Mr. Peanutbutter is also too busy to hang out. A downed Todd walks through town until he comes across a sign for Scientology, but a man instead offers Todd to join his improv club, Shenanigags.
Todd is seen at the Shenanigags learning about improv. He has won over the group—except Brian. The members explain you get suggestions from the audience and make-up scenes based on them, but you’re not allowed to ask questions or say no. You should also try to build on suggestions, called the "Yes and" technique. Todd can’t believe how simple improv is, which Brian disagrees with. The members tell him most importantly, improv is about community, which Todd has always want to be a part of.
At BoJack’s house the next day, BoJack is explaining the misunderstanding with Abe D'Catfish when Wanda questions why he would antagonize Abe. BoJack tells Wanda she’s probably glad since she didn’t want him to go to New York, and now he’s stuck here filming a movie that’ll ruin his career. Wanda doesn’t think he should sulk about it, but Diane says he should. BoJack thinks she may be right, although Wanda retorts Diane is the last person to take life advice from.
Todd enters and begins to tell them about improv, and tries to get them to practice with him, but BoJack and Wanda tell him to stop. Todd hopes he impress the leader of the council so he can become a Level 2. Diane believes he’s joined a cult, while Todd claims it isn’t, but BoJack agrees that improv is, in fact, a cult. Diane rants about how nothing matters, and after she leaves Wanda tells BoJack he has to talk to her.
Todd remembers his class and runs to Shenanigags. The members reprimand him for being late and warn him if he’s late again he’ll be kicked out. They also reveal Brian was kicked out for being too negative and sent away by Copernicus to the Shenanigags cruise line, the Giggle Ship. Todd then says his best friend told him improv is a cult, but he says he doesn’t believe that. The members tell him to invite BoJack to his improv show to see if he’s a true friend or not or if he’s worth having in his life.
Todd and the other Shenanigags members are at a bar when one of the members spots Copernicus, who Todd learns is the founder of Shenanigags.
Todd wants to talk to him, but the other members stop him, saying you can’t just go talk to him. Brian tells Todd to improv on a random lady to prove himself worthy. Todd approaches an old woman and improv her successfully, telling her that her friend exploded, and the gang cheer for him as they all leave. This also gets Copernicus's attention.
In Out to Sea, Todd goes back to BoJack's to get his stuff because he's going on the comedy cruise line, to discover that BoJack has returned. After an awkward greeting, Todd tells BoJack that he's finally moving out just like he wanted. BoJack attempts to apologize for missing Todd's graduation performance, although Todd knows he doesn’t mean it.
Todd then asks BoJack if he remembers the morning after his first night of staying with him, which BoJack doesn’t. Todd says he made BoJack a bunch of pancakes to thank him for letting him stay, but BoJack got mad at him for letting him eat so many pancakes, so he chased him around but he was hungover and full from the pancakes so he took a nap, and when he woke up he thanked Todd for the pancakes and told him to leave.
BoJack says he doesn’t remember any of that. As Todd is about to leave, BoJack tells Todd he’s better off without him and says they’ve had some good times and asks Todd if he agrees. Todd reluctantly replies with, "right", and tells BoJack that he hopes he'll find a way to be happy as he leaves.
Copernicus shows Todd around the Giggle ship and leads him to his cabin, which is small and dingy and only contains an old mattress, although Todd is excited to not sleep on a couch anymore.
On the Giggleship, Todd is hanging out with his Shenanigans friends when he sees a beaten up Brian being carried off by guards because he didn’t scrub the floors. Todd goes to see Copernicus so that they can clear things up. He goes into Copernicus's empty tiny cabin, although he discovers a porthole covered up by a poster. Todd crawls through it and discovers Copernicus has a large luxurious cabin—and most importantly, Copernicus is a fraud, evident by a book of butt jokes on his table. Copernicus catches Todd and he is taken away by guards.
BoJack decides it's time to bring Todd home He takes and his boat out to sea and follows the Giggleship.
BoJack manages to get on the Giggle ship and breaks into Todd's improv performance, and begs Todd to come home. Todd can't remember anything due to being brainwashed, so BoJack reminds Todd of who he is and that he should come home. Todd agrees and escapes with BoJack.
The two of them run out of the auditorium but run into guards. There is an improv fight that BoJack and Todd win.
The two of them make it outside. BoJack climbs down onto his boat. Todd begins to climb down when Copernicus tries to stop him. Todd tells him improv is fun, but not to this extent, and that he’s going to leave with his friend.
Copernicus begins to question why BoJack is his friend, because he sabotaged his rock opera, abuses him, and has never said anything nice to him. Todd tries to say it’s more complicated than that. Two Shenanigags members try to convince Todd they’re his real friends.
All of a sudden, BoJack tells Todd he actually made him hash browns the first morning he stayed with him. He then says he kept eating them and they both threw up in the pool. He tells Todd he told him to clean it up, but he ended up having to call the pool cleaner.
Afterward, Todd told him, "Thank you for letting me stay here. I don't have anywhere else to go". BoJack explains that made him feel good about himself and that letting him stay with him was the best thing he ever did on purpose. He tells Todd he’s his best friend, and Todd gets on his ship.
The two ride back to land. Todd asks BoJack why he has a boat, but he doesn’t remember.
Princess Carolyn calls BoJack and tells him that she keeps getting calls from New York playwright Jill Pill, saying she really wants to talk to him and that apparently she worked on his show—not Horsin' Around, his other show, to BoJack's shock as he realizes what show she means. Princess Carolyn also asks if he wants Herb's ashes. BoJack agrees but Princess Carolyn's assistant, Stuart, accidentally breaks the urn.
The urn is put back together and put in the new orphanage, now renamed after Herb. Unfortunately, the plaque reads "Jerb" instead of Herb, as the email BoJack sent apparently had a typo. BoJack is annoyed at this and tells them to change it, although the owner refuses to change it because they spent a lot of money on it already. Todd tells BoJack that Herb probably would have thought that the misspelling was funny and it would be considered hilarious BoJack couldn't even get this right. BoJack reluctantly says he's right and they agree to go get food.
Season 3
In Start Spreading The News BoJack goes to New York to promote Secretariat and finds Todd in his suitcase. BoJack questions how he got here. Apparently, Todd got drunk from an alcohol mixture that BoJack made to make himself fall asleep, passed out and fell into the suitcase. Todd winds up getting lost in the hotel and most of his plot revolves around finding his way back to the room.
In BoJack Kills, Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter find themselves in a stinky situation when they are attacked by a skunk.
Princess Carolyn shows up at Mr. Peanutbutter's house to find it smelling of skunk and marijuana, courtesy of Todd smoking a joint, and filled with spaghetti strainers. Mr. Peanutbutter expresses concern that he and Diane may end up getting a divorce if any more fights break out between them, and asks for help removing the skunk scent before she returns home. Carolyn suggests they take a tomato bath. Todd is enthusiastic about the idea due to being high on marijuana.
Princess Carolyn goes to the bathroom door to check up on Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter. To her chagrin, Todd exits the bathroom with nothing but a strainer covering his crotch, covered in tomato sauce, which drips all over the carpet. Carolyn is mildly perturbed at the thought of Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter bathing together, which Todd is quick to defend. Mr. Peanutbutter becomes irritated by the tomato sauce in his fur and tries to resist shaking off.
He fails and shakes tomato sauce all over Carolyn and the bedroom. He notes that shaking off made their problem worse, despite the skunk scent being cleared from their bodies. Carolyn prepares to calls a cleaning service while Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter take care of their foul-smelling clothes. Todd eagerly runs off to do so, tracking more tomato sauce through the house.
In Love And/Or Marriage To celebrate Secretariat's success, BoJack and Todd go to Hotel Kangaroosevelt to have drinks. There, Todd runs into Emily, his ex-girlfriend from high school. She’s excited to see Todd and explains her best friend is getting married and she’s here for the rehearsal dinner.
She also tells BoJack she loved The BoJack Horseman Show in an ironic way. When she is about to excuse herself to go back to the rehearsal dinner, BoJack, thinking it’s an actual wedding, tells Todd that they should crash it, because people love it when celebrities crash their weddings.
Todd and Emily go to the hotel room. Todd suggests playing in the laundry cart, but Emily tells him in a serious tone she wants to fool around in bed. However, to clearly get out of it, Todd lies that he feels sick from drinking so much and he just wants to go to bed. After the two say it was good to see each other, Todd hurries into the hotel room by himself, leaving an upset and confused Emily outside.
Todd lays in bed in the hotel room all alone. A downed Emily meets up with BoJack at the bar and winds up sleeping with him.
Cabracadabra is a cab company where woman drive other woman around, making them feel safe and preventing them from being harassed by men. This is what Todd and Emily tell Mr. Peanutbutter when they pitch it to him at his house. Of course, he’s on board with the idea. They are setting up shop at BoJack’s house because there is no room at Mr. Peanutbutter’s house, as it’s filled with spaghetti strainers. Mr. Peanutbutter can’t remember why, but he’s certain the payoff will be huge.
In Stop the Presses BoJack wakes on his deck with a papier-mâché of Todd's head on his own head. He takes it off and walks through the house where everyone is busy setting up for Todd and Emily's new cab company, Cabracadabra.
In a flashback at the end of Love And/Or Marriage, where Emily met up with BoJack at the bar after Todd got out of sleeping with her. She tells him she got thirsty, and when BoJack asks if Todd would want to join them, she says she’s tired of trying to figure out what Todd wants. After they sleep together, Emily said they should tell Todd, but BoJack tells her they shouldn’t.
When the two ran into each other when she and Todd first started setting up, they act awkward and deny knowing each other. Mr. Peanutbutter senses that something is going on, but decides that it’s because they all know Cabracadabra will be successful.
BoJack and Emily are awkward around each other because of what happened between them. BoJack says he can't sleep because Todd and Emily are talking and laughing.
Inside, Emily asks Todd if she can talk to him. She tells Todd he should run the company without her, saying he really doesn’t need her anyways and she can’t work here. An upset Todd asks if he did something, but Emily assures him it’s her and BoJack.
Todd asks what happened. Emily says she hasn’t been a good friend to him, and that things happened, and that BoJack hasn’t been a very good friend to him either. A downed Todd accepts and assures Emily he wants her to keep her share of money. Emily tells him he’s sweet, and he shouldn’t waste it on people who don’t deserve it.
In Old Acquaintance Todd tells Mr. Peanutbutter that his idea to start including male customers was a success. However, it's caused some problems because they rate drivers on how they look. Mr. Peanutbutter tells him that if their women don't feel safe in that space then they need to find new women.
Todd then heads to a gentleman's club. Later, he throws a party for his company at BoJack's house.
In It's You Todd and Mr. Peanutbutter have to make up new Oscar nominees after Mr. Peanutbutter loses the envelope while looking for his phone. However, Todd does not want to nominate BoJack and angrily questions if he’s really their friend, saying he’s sick of BoJack walking over everybody but still getting what he wants, but Mr. Peanutbutter says that BoJack is a damaged person battling a lot of demons, and it would mean a lot to him if they mentioned him.
Todd reluctantly agrees. Later in the day, Mr. Peanutbutter's obvious faux pas is discovered by the Oscar committee. Mr. Peanutbutter goes to BoJack's house, where he was throwing a large party to elevate his nomination, and breaks the news to BoJack that he wasn’t actually nominated for an Oscar.
BoJack wakes up in a practically destroyed house, all alone. BoJack, desperate, realizes he can't reach Ana on the phone, whom he "need(s)". BoJack then antagonizes the recently-returned Todd, ordering him not to leave him like everybody else, and confronting him about Todd not wanting him to be nominated. BoJack claims Todd owes him for everything he’s done for him the last couple of years.
Todd replies that he was only nice to him because he felt bad about Emily. BoJack asks if he knew he had sex with her, to which Todd, shocked by this, says he didn't know, and says he thought he have one of his “weird monologues” about how sad he is, and it bummed her out.
BoJack tried to apologize, but Todd finally snaps and tells BoJack “You can't keep doing this! You can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself as if that makes it okay! You need to be better!."
BoJack says he knows and that he was drunk and under a lot of pressure with the Oscar campaign. As he begins to say now that it’s all over, Todd cuts him off and says, “No! No, BoJack, just... Stop. You are all the things that are wrong with you. It's not the alcohol, or the drugs, or any of the shitty things that happened to you in your career or when you were a kid. It's you. Alright? It's you. Todd ends his speech by saying Fuck, man... What else is there to say?, showing that BoJack has once again destroyed a relationship.
In the Season 3 finale, That Went Well, Mr. Peanutbutter sells Cabracadabra, and Todd receives eight million dollars. As he is about to leave the Cabracadabra headquarters to celebrate his new wealth, he runs into Emily, and the two reconcile by agreeing to go hang out.
Todd and Emily have ice cream and discuss what they're going to do with their eight million dollars.
Emily, then asks Todd if he's gay, which Todd quickly denies, but he doesn’t think he’s straight either, thinking instead that he may be nothing, implying he’s asexual. Emily accepts him for who he is.
They get the bill and Todd discovers he tipped the waitresses eight million dollars, and he’s broke again, although he and Emily just laugh this off.
Season 4
Todd is now living with Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter.
In See Mr. Peanutbutter Run, Todd is shown to be uncomfortable with being "labeled" asexual when Emily does this while having lunch with him when she says she isn’t looking for an asexual boyfriend.
However, she does use a portion of her eight million dollars to build Todd a "drone throne", an idea he brought up to her during lunch.
Todd enjoys using his drone throne until he drops the remote, trapping him in the skies with a giant bag of kettle corn her stole.
He ends up crashing and interrupting the ski race between Mr. Peanutbutter and Woodchuck Coodchuck-Berkowitz, where the winner would become governor. Todd ends up crossing the finish line and becomes governor, but resigns seconds later as he does not want the position.
With no Governor now, a new election starts with Mr. Peanutbutter challenging Woodchuck for the seat.
In Hooray! Todd Episode! Todd is spread thin doing favors for Princess Carolyn, Mr. Peanutbutter, and Hollyhock. He helps Princess Carolyn with Courtney Portnoy's publicity stunt, Mr. Peanutbutter with his political campaign, and Hollyhock finds her biological roots.
He tells BoJack distancing himself from him is kind of working for him as the two haven't spoken in a year and then goes to his Asexual Alliance Meeting.
In Stupid Piece of Sh*t Todd is asked by Princess Carolyn and Rutabaga Rabitowitz to enter a sham wedding with Courtney Portnoy. Todd says he does not want to get married. Princess Carolyn says that they can draw up a sham marriage contract and that he'd stay married for three years and get a huge payout at the end.
Todd asks Diane for advice and she tells him marriage is a lie-that you can't promise to be with someone to be with them forever. Todd thanks her and says she has given him a lot to think about. He then decides not to go through with the wedding.
In Underground Princess Carolyn and Todd help mediate for an ant colony in exchange for being returned to the surface after Mr. Peanutbutter's house sinks during a campaign gala due to a fracking incident.
In The Judge Mr. Peanutbutter and Todd come up with their clown dentist business idea.
In Lovin that cali lifestyle!! Todd is approached by Yolanda Buenaventura, a representative of Better Business Bureau. She comes to him because his clown dentist practice is not getting great reviews due to most of the dentists not being actually licensed, and most of the children finding them frightening.
However, Todd proposes that he could turn his business into an entertainment company, and makes a deal that if he could make an entertaining show for Yolanda in a week, she could make them a legitimate business. If not, he will dissolve the business and set the clowns loose into the woods, and Yolanda agrees to the deal.
Later, Todd struggles to get the clowns to practice, while Princess Carolyn has turned to drinking heavily due to the events of Ruthie. She is called back into work for a meeting with an inspiring writer, Flip McVicker, but while she is ready to shoot down his TV show premise, she changes her mind when she sees the script and that the title is Philbert, which was going to be the name of the baby she miscarried in the previous episode.
Now determined to get the project green-lit, she asks Todd to get a meeting with her with Lenny Turteltaub before passing out. Deciding to use it as an opportunity to practice, Todd and the clowns manage to get Princess Carolyn to her meeting with Turteltaub. Turteltaub suggests that she pitches the show to WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com, but when he asks who was the actor playing Philbert, she told him she didn’t have a lead actor yet.
He tells her he won’t pick it up unless she had a lead actor. She quickly listed multiple actors, but Lenny isn’t interested in any of them. She then blurts out BoJack Horseman's name, who Lenny thinks would be perfect for, although he ran out on both Secretariat and Ethan Around. He tells Princess Carolyn to make BoJack sign a contract to finish the deal (and to ensure he won’t run off again).
One week later, Todd and the clowns present their show to Yolanda, but it fails to impress her, and Todd is forced to uphold his end of the deal. Meanwhile, Princess Carolyn's assistant Stuart reminds her about the pitch meeting to WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com, and she realizes that she procrastinated in getting BoJack to sign the contract. Despite trying to call him, BoJack hangs up, angrily saying he’s busy, leaving Princess Carolyn to forge his signature.
In What Time Is It Right Now, Princess Carolyn's assistant brings her home as she went on another drinking bender, and Todd brings her into the woods and ties her to a dentist chair to tell her to get herself together. Princess Carolyn, however, laments that when they find out that she forged BoJack's signature, the deal will end and her reputation and career will be over and she will be left with nothing.
Todd, however, tells her that she doesn't need a family to have a child, and the only way out is through, lifting her spirits. However, they soon find the clown dentists Todd left behind are acting strange, and escape from them when they attack the two.
It turns out that one of the clowns got infected with rabies from a raccoon and the other clowns also got infected as a result. Todd calls up Yolanda and convinces her to help him since she's partially responsible for the clowns being in the forest and it could damage the Better Business Bureau's reputation if word gets out.
Todd and Yolanda are planning a trap to capture rabies infected clown dentists, but their plans fall apart and are forced to run off. When they get to a safe distance, a panting Yolanda remarks that she doesn't run much and needs to get in better shape, sparking inspiration from Todd. He makes a new business with the clowns now called "Run For Your Life: Escape The Rabid Clown Dentists!" which has people run away from the rabies clown dentists and gets them in better shape.
This new business is deemed "better" by Yolanda, and Todd thanks Yolanda for her help. Before Yolanda leaves, she offers to take Todd on a date revealing herself as asexual as well, with a stunned Todd blissfully realizing that this is good for him.
Season 5
Todd goes in for an interview as a janitor for WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com but ends up becoming President of Ad Sales for Streamable Content for WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com and WhatTimeIsItGo. He's currently dating Yolanda and goes to meet her family. He learns that they are sex addicts and pretends to be sexually active with Yolanda.
In the end, Yolanda reveals to her parents that she's asexual but she and Todd breakup because Todd feels that that's all they have in common. They do make a promise to get back together if they're still single by the time they are one hundred.
Todd creates a sex robot for Emily in order to show his appreciation for her creating an asexual dating app for him. The robot, whose name is Henry Fondle, accidentally becomes CEO of WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com. Todd destroys the robot after it harasses one of its employees and a slew of sexual harassment claims come out afterward.
Personality
Todd is a friendly, well-meaning, and mostly upbeat slacker who has been shown to possess a plethora of skills including an understanding of Japanese, entrepreneurial know-how, and artistic capabilities.
Besides having allied with Mr. Peanutbutter for various business ideas, he tried writing and composing his own rock opera, Newtopia Rising, Book I: The Search for a New Utopia. Like the other main characters, Todd is shown to be searching for meaning in his life and attempts to do so through helping others and finding belonging within a community (with varying degrees of success).
While Todd is well-meaning and can try hard when he puts his mind to it, he often ends up in trouble. He initially prized BoJack as his best friend, despite suffering constant insults from him. Todd is also overly trusting of BoJack and is often dragged into his numerous schemes.
Funnily enough, Todd always finds it in his heart to forgive BoJack for whatever he has done to him, even though BoJack fails to have much regard for him at most times, and regularly shuts him out of conversations or ignores him. As time passed, however, Todd began to question their friendship upon getting annoyed that BoJack is getting everything he wants despite all the terrible things he has done.
In It's You, the line was finally crossed when BoJack accidentally let slip that he had sex with Todd's high school friend, Emily. Fed up with his friend's actions, Todd came to realize that BoJack had been the problem all along and told him this in no uncertain terms. He tells BoJack he needs to be better and can't just do awful things and then feel bad about himself as a means of justifying and normalizing his poor actions.
Earlier on he also advises BoJack not to try to sabotage Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter's wedding. He tells him he should stop messing with other people's lives. This shows the more mature, no-nonsense side of his personality.
In Season 4, Todd has a deeper conversation with BoJack and admits that he's not ready for them to be friends again, or live together again, but that he's okay with being "more than not-friends" making it clear that their previous dynamic as friends is no longer acceptable to him. This could imply future healing and repairing of their friendship over a long period of time in the future.
After telling Emily he is not interested in sex after she thought he was gay, she calls him asexual, and while he takes a bit to accept the term, he comes out to BoJack, he eventually joins the Asexual Alliance Group. He starts up the idea of Clown Dentists, which fails miserably, and he ends up getting asked out by Yolanda Buenaventura, a fellow asexual implying a possible relationship might start for them.
However, in Season 5, the date but they wind up breaking up in Planned Obsolescence due to not having anything in common besides asexuality. However, they agree to get back together when they are a hundred years old if neither of them finds anyone else.

- Todd's original name was Topher.[2]
- Todd loves shimmying, as revealed in After the Party.
- In the Season 2 finale, he's revealed to be 24 years old, as of mid-2015, setting his birth year in 1991.
- He has a tattoo of the Latin Kings gang in one arm and one of the Aryans in the other, both from his time in prison. In Season 4, his tattoos have been modified to say "LA Kings" and "Skinny Jugheads."
- Aaron Paul, the voice of Todd, plays the character of Jesse Pinkman in the TV series Breaking Bad, ironically he has an enemy named Todd.
- In season 1, Todd accidentally steps on a needle and addresses that he thinks he maybe addicted to heroin, which may be an allusion to Jesse's addiction during Season 2.
- Todd being involved with a powerful drug cartel may also be an indirect reference to Jesse.
- Todd is one of few people to know how The Sopranos ended.
- Todd is the third character to use the word "fuck." The others are Herb in Season 1, Charlotte in Season 2 and BoJack in Season 4, and Gina in Season 5 . The writers have a rule, which is that this word can be used only once per season and only when a character's relationship with BoJack is permanently ruined.
- He is extremely talented. He can ride a skateboard, play the keyboard, and even managed to open up his own Disneyland, which was burned down due to several safety hazards.
- He got rich off the idea of Cabracadabra, but accidentally blew it all at a diner.
- He and Emily once swapped beanies in 2007 when getting ready for sexual relations, but they were interrupted and Todd had to shimmy his way out, and they never swapped their beanies back. Hence his beanie is now yellow.
- Kelsey Jannings thinks he is cute and calls him adorable every time they are on screen together.
- He once had his identity stolen by the Prince of Cordovia
- He confided to Princess Carolyn he often gets mistook for Octavia Spencer and the Prince
- His blood type is B positive.
- The last four digits of his social security number are 7817.
- He cannot eat when he’s scared, so he’ll unfortunately never know the taste of Count Chocula.
- He regularly sneaks bags of mashed potatoes into the movie theater to eat during the movie. He is under the impression that this is a normal thing that lots of people do (not just sneaking food into a theater, but mashed potatoes specifically).
