Season 1[]

In BoJack Hates the Troops, having returned from his service with the Navy SEALs in Afghanistan, Neal meets BoJack at the local J'Von's when he returns from the bathroom to find the last box of "Muffin Man Apple Muffins."

Neal claims he had called dibs on the muffins by leaving them in the produce section.

He and BoJack begin to argue. Neal states he already called dibs on the box, and that the box being in the produce section should have given the impression it was claimed. BoJack affirms one cannot call dibs on something and leave it in a visible place.

Before Neal can tell BoJack he deserves the muffins after serving in the military, BoJack simply sneaks away with the box and buys them at the checkout. Neal angrily swears that BoJack will regret this.

Neal later takes his story to the news network MSNBSea and speaks with correspondent Tom Jumbo-Grumbo about BoJack's behavior. After BoJack sees the segment, he calls in live to argue with Neal.

The two go on to argue in a video conference set up on MSNBSea, where Neal demands BoJack to show respect to the military as heroes. BoJack retorts that not all military are heroes and that there's a good chance many may be jerks.

Later, Neal meets BoJack in person at Mr. Peanutbutter's house while shooting for Mr. Peanutbutter's reality TV show. BoJack is set to apologize to Neal for his remarks and to return a box of muffins to Neal.

Since BoJack is unable to give Neal muffins due to Todd's incompetency, BoJack instead gives Neal a bag of day-old In-N-Out hamburger buns and salvages the situation by adding commentary that the military shouldn't be used and thrown away like the buns. Neal accepts, despite BoJack's rant that follows. He is last seen engrossed by Mr. Peanutbutter's antics, distracted, and forgetting about BoJack's building speech.

Neal makes a cameo in Horse Majeure. He is seen dancing at the after-party for Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter's wedding.
